Festival Of The Arts - Andy Warhol

1 December 2017:

This week in festival of the arts have been making pop art pictures. We had to chose a cartoon character or celebrity to draw a picture of and color it in. I chose mickey mouse. First we had to draw a picture of a cartoon character and trace it onto a A2 piece of paper. Next we traced the A2 piece of paper each side to make it easier for the next step. Then we traced it onto  A3 and then started coloring. We had to make a pattern, my pattern was: glove to shoe, shoe to button and button to pants. As seen on the picture and this is where I am up to.

Is it healthy:  I think what we are doing is wrong we are not thinking about climate change and our futures.
Is it beneficial: What we are doing to nature is not good. But what we are getting from it is quite a lot.
Are we making wise choices: No. Because we might be getting produce from nature but for nature it will be bad.

The Importance Of Empathy

Empathy definition according to Collins dictionary:
The ability to understand someone else's feeling as if they are your own.

3 Sentences about Empathy:
- Empathy is a ability to help each other out and put yourself in there shoes.
- Empathy takes practice and good understanding.
- Empathy can change a persons life.

I AM WONDERING:
- I am wondering do these people ever talk to someone about how they are feeling?

I think empathy is important because if we didn't have empathy we wouldn't be able to control our feelings and maybe sometimes people would yell at others for no reason.

Dear Orana Wildlife Park

Hello my name is Nidhi and I am from Hornby High School we would like to thank Orana Park for this amazing experience. I had lot's of fun getting to know the different animals and species around the park. I would personally like to thank Sarah our tour guide for showing us around the park and telling us about all the animals and helping us stay on track. We had a lot of fun.

I had learnt about lot's of animals today such as the Rhinoceros, Cheetah, Lion, Gorilla,Giraffe, Kea, Kiwi, Tigers and many many more. My favorite part of this trip was watching the tigers and learning about there species and how we can help them from becoming endangered. I had a memorable experience and so did my fellow classmates.

One part of the experience I would have liked to do would have been to feed the giraffes. Other than that we had a good experience which we will not forget. Once again I would like to thank Sarah for this experience I really appreciated it.

Your Sincerely Hornby High School ( Nidhi )

Hauora Whare

WHAT AM I LEARNING :
I am learning the 4 dimensions of hauora.

  1. Taha Hinengaro( Mental Health)
  2. Taha Wairua (Spiritual Well Being)
  3. Taha Tinana (Physical Well Being)
  4. Taha Whanau (Family & Relationships)
HOW DOES THIS SHOW MY LEARNING :
This shows my learning because on every side of the marae has one of the 4 dimensions and how you show it on the side.

Ways you can you show the 4 dimensions of hauora :

  • Taha Hinengaro(Mental Health)

You can show this by listening to calming music.
Eg. When you are angry listen to music you like.
  • Taha Wairua(Spiritual Well Being)
You can show this by respecting people's cultures and beliefs.
Eg. Go to church & follow your beliefs.
  • Taha Tinana(Physical Well Being)
You can show this by eating healthy and exercise every day.
Eg. Do fitness in the morning and eat 5 fruits a day.
  • Taha Whanau(Family & Relationships)
You can show this by spending time with your family and friends.
Eg. Go to the park with your family.

How the body works ?

We are learning to explain how the body functions
I have been learning how the body works.(HAIR)
Where does hair come from:
There are 2 follicles at the surface of skin. At the base of each follicles is something called a hair bulb, where hair cells multiple. As hair begins to grow it pushes up and out of the follicle and out the skin where it can be seen.
Where does hair grow:
Hair grows almost anywhere, some hair are easy to see than others. Depending on where hair is, it has different jobs. Examples: Hair on top of your head keeps your head warm, Eyelashes protects you from dirt and dust getting into them & your eyebrows stops sweat from dripping into them.

Split Ends: When hair is at the skins surface the cells that make up a strand of hair aren't alive anymore so when you cut them off it doesn't hurt. Hair grows half a inch every month.

Colored Hair:
Hair can come in all sorts of colors. The color of your hair comes from something called melanin which is a pigment. The lighter someones hair the less melanin. As you age your hair loose's melanin that's why it goes white. EG. Say if you have blonde hair you have less melanin to someone who has black hair which has lot's of melanin.

Why is hair so oily and shiny:
There is something called the Sebaceous Glands which produces oil to make it shiny. Sometimes the sebaceous glands produce so much that it makes your hair look oily and greasy.

Loosing Hair:
Hair is always falling out whether you know it or not. There are at least 100,000 strands of hair on an average persons head & 50-100 strands of hair is lost everyday. Loosing hair, it's not such a big deal because it is being replaced by a new piece of hair. Here's  how it work: When your hair falls out of a follicle it is being replaced by a new piece of hair.

Ways to keep your hair healthy:
  • Washing hair regularly makes your hair look healthy and shiny.
  • Brush and comb your hair regularly to help it look healthy.
  • Last but not least always eat healthy.

Business And Enterprise

What are we learning:
I am learning to work collaboratively.
Working collaboratively with other I need to:

  1. Listen to other people's idea's.
  2. Taking responsibility for parts of the task and seeing these through to completion.
  3. To listen to others advice
  4. Being Flexible
  5. Being a positive person within my company.
HOW AM I PROGRESSING :
So far i think i am working well with my peers and gaining advice from others. I think I am listening to other people's idea's by not talking while they are talking and letting everyone share their idea's.I think I am taking responsibility for part of my work and letting everyone in my group a chance to do tasks. I think am letting everyone speak and giving everyone a chance to share idea's. I think I am being flexible and solving problems with my group. I think a I being a positive person because when we have problem within the company I try to solve it and soon as possible.
JPEG ImageWhat has the company done so far:
We have completed 12 -14 Popsicle stick frames so far and if we complete a few more we will have enough money to pay back Mrs elley. My company is planning to make 24 -28 so we can make profit for our business. We have struggled with getting our hot glue gun sticks from Mrs Gibson and then we solved the problem by asking someone from our group to see if you have some at home. Luckily 1 person from our group had hot glue sticks.
WHAT IS THE COMPANIES NEXT STEP:
The companies next step is to make enough products to make profit. To help my peers with company work.
WHAT DO I EXPECT ON MARKET DAY:
I expect that we should be able to make profit and all our products should be sold out.

Machine Fact File :Hammer

HAMMER

WHY DO WE NEED HAMMERS?
A hammer is a tool that is normally used to join nails together. Hammers are also used for breaking objects apart and fitting parts together, especially nails. Hammers are don’t just to push nails down. It can also flatten things and break objects.

Ancient Hammers:
The use of hammers goes back to 2 million BCE. There is no evidence about who invented the hammer, but it has been used for many centuries in ancient Rome, Greek, and the middle ages. Even the ancient egyptians used it. Evidence shows that hammers were the only tool with evidence that existed in the stone age. In the stone age they were built from stones, animal leather, and pieces of wood.

Making life easier:
How does hammers make our life easier? Well if you didn’t have a hammer our lives would be very difficult and exhausting. If a nail is out, you just give a tap with a hammer and it’s fixed. While on the other hand trying to put a nail in place with dangerous objects would be very difficult.

How To Use A Hammer:
The first thing you do is hold the the hammer on its handle. When you're hitting a nail the next step you do is aim at the nail and then you hit it. As you hit the hammer you are putting force on the nail which makes the nail sync onto the surface. (Without trying to hit your fingers)

Conclusion:
Hammers make our lives much easier, because they helps us with nailing things down or pulling the nails out. Without hammers buildings wouldn’t be made, because most buildings use nails to start the construction. So now you know why hammers are important and why we need them in our lives.

High Impact Car Race Results ............

What did we do ?
The first race was how far could the cars go. Everyone had 5 minutes to touch up their cars for the races.
The second race was the car that could go closest or stop at the end of the green line. Then again everyone could have 5 minutes touch up their cars.
The third race was which could go furthest and then again everybody had a fair race because we all go to make our car into whatever shape we wanted and we all started at the race line and tried to get the car to go furthest.

Displaying Screenshot 2017-05-23 at 11.23.22 AM.pngThe Effects Of My Modification:

In the picture it shows that I have put clay at the back of the car to make it go faster. The clay put's weight on the back to make it go faster as well.

Displaying Screenshot 2017-05-23 at 11.23.41 AM.png
This car was made like this because it had to stop at the green line. We put more weight on it this time so it could go slower putting more friction on it.

Displaying Screenshot 2017-05-23 at 11.23.33 AM.png

This car was made for the car which could go the longest distance. We didn't put anything on because we thought it might go faster.

THE RESULTS:
How did your car do in each race compared to others:
I think we done good just above average on our car.

What cars won the race:
Car no. 2 and 3 did a good job.

Why did they win:
Because they had enough friction and acceleration in their cars.

REFLECTION :
What were we learning about?
We were learning about High Impact and what forces interact with moving objects.

How does this show my understanding of learning:
It shows my learning because I have learnt a lot of words and I have used them in my previous blogs about High Impact.

What do I still need more work on:
I need to work on understanding more about acceleration, friction, thrust and gravity and more words about this kete.

What am I wondering:
I am wondering that what do I have to do to make my car be the fastest, stop at the green line and make it go further.

THE PHYSICS OF CAR RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE PHYSICS OF CAR RACING:

1. What has been done to make this a fair test?
Everyone has the same type of car.We are all racing on the same track. We all have the same choice of material.

2.What forces are needed to make the car go faster and how you modified your car accordingly?
I added clay to the back and front of the car because so the car will slow down easier.I also added clay to the bottom of the car because so the car can stop faster.

3. What forces are needed to make the car stop and what adjustments have you made to try and stop it by the line?
To have enough gravity to pull it to the ground. To have enough drag/friction to stop the car in time.

4.What forces are needed to make the car travel further and what adjustments have you made to achieve this?
You need more acceleration and I have put weight at the front and back to make it go faster.

5.
