In Esol class Ms Briggs assigned us an assessment on writing a short story ( under 150 words ) on scary legends and myths from our country. This is mine and my scary story is about the period ghost ( It's more interesting than it sounds ).

Persuasive Argument - ESOL
Global Warming Is Destroying Antarctica.
What is global warming? It the rise of the earths average temperature over a long period of time and I believe this is a huge issue. Evidence shows that the average temperature has risen approximately, 0.8 degrees Celsius since the industrial revolution. This has a huge impact on Antarctica's climate. One simple way to help resolve this issue is to invest your money in energy efficient appliances such, energy efficient dryers, freezers or washing machines, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. By doing this you're not only helping to save the plant but to preserve it for the next generations to come.

As we know Antarctica is known for its snow, ice and adorable animals. However, since the rise in temperatures, the earth has been getting more droughts, heat waves and stronger hurricanes. This is extremely bad for your health as the heat waves will increase heat strokes or even cause death. The higher temperatures affect the plants, animals and weather patterns. The warming of the water leads to animals which live in cold habitats in search for new habitats. So if you think climate change has nothing to do with you, think again. I believe in another 100 to 200 years there will be no fresh water and many coastal cities will be under the sea. I also believe that many animals and plants will be extinct. We are burning the earth. There are many ways you can make a difference, but one easy way is to reduce the waste coming from your house. Landfills are major contributors to methane and other greenhouse gases, so by reducing your waste, it will have a massive impact.
Due to higher temperatures, the ice in Antarctica is melting, and very large amounts are falling into the ocean. Earth contains 70% water and of that 70% only 3% is fresh water, and most of it is frozen in the Antarctic glaciers. The melting of the ice leads to fresh water mixing with salt water making it undrinkable for humans. This may not seem possible but research shows that 2.7 trillion tons of ice have already melted. This means we’ve lost 2.7 trillion tons of fresh water. This causes a rise in the earth's sea level. Evidence shows the earth's sea level has grown by 1 centimetre and will continue growing if we don’t do anything about it. There are multiple ways you can make a change. You could ride your bike or use a kitchen cloth instead of a paper towel. Riding a bike is not only healthy but no carbon dioxide emissions are produced, and paper towels are mainly made in factories which again release CO₂ emissions.

Climate - ESOL
🌧️ Climate 🌞
In ESOL we are learning about weather and climate. Ms Briggs assigned us to write about the hottest and coldest place on earth. The hottest place on earth is Death Valley in California whereas the coldest place on earth is Vostok Station in Antarctica. There is more information about these places in the paragraphs below.
The Hottest Place On Earth:
Death Valley in California is the hottest place on earth. The temperatures can vary between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in winter. In summer the average temperature is between 39 to 47 degrees Celsius. That’s hot! Its located between the borders of California and Nevada. Death Valley is surrounded by mountains and deserts. Because It's a desert, it has long summers and less rain. The northern part of death valley holds the Badwater Basin, which is 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is one of the driest places on earth, so animals have evolved to go many days without water, such as bighorn sheep, kangaroo rats, desert tortoises, snakes and many more. Small fish actually live in the desert, they live in creeks and springs. In Death Valley, it’s wrong to give the animals food because it disturbs their ability to find food and water by themselves. People do live there, the population is 320 approximately. There are many attractions in Death Valley such as the Badwater Basin, Devils Golf Course, Furnace Creek, Darwin Falls, Ubehebe Crater and numerous amounts of valleys and canyons.

The Coldest Place On Earth?
Vostok Station in Antarctica is the coldest place on earth. The population is 25 in the summer seasons and 13 to 14 in the winter seasons, approximately. Many scientists work there to find out the climate of the past and future. Its located in Princess Elizabeth Land. There is no mountains, forests or rivers, the variety is flat snow and ice. Antarctica is a desert which means it gets very little rain. The lowest the temperatures got was -89.6 degrees Celsius. The average temperature in Vostok is -65 degrees Celsius in winter whereas in summer it's -40 degrees. Penguins and seals are very common in Antarctica, I assume there would be some around the area. Unfortunately, there is not much information about Vostok compared to Death Valley.
Believe it or not, Death Valley and Vostok Station have some similarities. They are both deserts. Both places have animals living on them which have adapted to the harsh environments. Death Valley and Vostok Station contain really severe climates. In contrast, Death Valley is extremely hotter than Vostok Station and vice versa. Death Valley has a higher population than Vostok Station. These are some similarities and differences between climates.
