Another World - English

You have the power to change the world. What does an ideal world look like in your mind? What could you do to make it a reality?

An ideal world for me is where every human being is respected for who they are ( Not matter the gender, culture or religion). Everyone shows humanity! This means showing kindness, loyalty and just being humane. I would also like to see a world where animals are respected and taken care of. This means no torture or animal testing. Secondly, where poverty is not to be seen. Thirdly, where everyone is helping each other, no greed but instead a smile. Lastly where women and men are both treated equally and not degraded.

To make a difference I will continue to keep showing generosity. I will encourage the women I know and will not degrade men. And lastly, I will just be kind!

Reflection - English Speech

Related imageReflection:

In English class, we have been writing a speech on our favourite topic and learning techniques on how to do a good speech. My presentation was about education. I talked about why it is important, the places that don't offer education, the impacts of not going to school and some relevant facts. I am proud of everything I have produced but especially the speech, I put a lot of effort into writing it. I didn't have many challenges apart from speaking in front of an audience. If I was to do something different next time I would speak a little louder and project my voice.

School Uniforms - English

School Uniforms?

Image result for school uniforms
We should get rid of school uniforms, or should we?

This has been a very controversial question. Many students prefer to have no uniform because they want to express themselves. But are wearing mufti clothing really beneficial for students? In reality, they are not. School uniforms are very propitious they promote equality, prevent gang colours and symbols and make it easy to get ready for school.

This may not be obvious but wearing school uniforms promote equality. This is because students are dressed alike and don't need to worry about others who look more fashionable. Studies show that when students wear uniforms in school it reduces bullying. How? Well, they won't have pressure on them by their peers, to wear the latest clothing or get judged by what clothes they wear. Because it doesn't matter if you're from a low-income household or a high-income household, every student is wearing the same clothing. Students deserve to be treated equally!

Schools uniforms prevent gang colours and symbols. If we had to wear mufti clothing this would be a great opportunity for gang members to reveal their signs and colours within the clothing. This would lead to many people joining gangs so they can feel apart of a popular group. Uniforms are a great way of feeling apart of the group and stopping gangs in the school. Gang colours and symbols shouldn't be allowed in the school compounds. Uniforms make sure these situations do not happen.

School uniforms make it easy to get ready for school. As we know students are often late to school, and by having a uniform they can quickly put on, it makes it so much easier. Whereas if they had to wear the clothing of their choice, students would take much longer deciding what they would want to wear. Pupils don't have to take 1-hour choosing what outfit they could wear, or which one their peers would like the most. With uniforms, they are a great saviour for lateness. A study was done in the University of Housten and it stated that schoolchildren who wear uniforms have better attendance and grades than students who do not. Uniforms are better! No more arguing about what to wear in the morning.

We know that many school students would prefer themselves with mufti clothing, but it's not beneficial. Uniforms help promote equality, with students dressing alike. They prevent gang colours and symbols in the school. Lastly, they are so quick and easy to put on with no arguing about what to wear. Uniforms should be kept! They are an essential part of the school. Uniforms promote their school inside and outside. So should we get rid of uniforms?

Diversity - English

The past two terms in English we have been looking at the concept of another world. The class has read books relating to different people and worlds which our world can connect to. We have watched and read texts from different perspectives which included the idea diversity. Diversity was shown in the film ( Zootopia ) and the book ( The children of blood and bone ).

Diversity means to be able to understand the people who are different from you and respect their differences. This means respecting their culture, religion, gender and etc. I think diversity is significant and should be shown by everyone because it helps grow your knowledge about various cultures and people. If more people show the diversity the world will be a better place.

What do I already know?
I know that diversity is about accepting people who are different along with respecting them. Although I didn't have great knowledge about diversity before this year.

What did I learn this year?
I learnt to understand the different perspectives of people and to respect them. I learnt more about various cultures ( The children of blood and bone ).

📝 Final Copy Of Children Of Blood And Bone Essay 📝

Image result for children of blood and bone bookChildren Of Blood And Bone

Introduction
Is it equitable to treat someone poorly because they are different? In the book Children Of Blood And Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, a challenging setting is the world of Orisha. The challenging world of Orisha helps the reader understand the loss of language, paying a tax because your different, and water scarcity.

Body 1
In chapter 1 we see how the maji are forbidden to speak their language. "Fool, she scolds me in Yoruba, the maji tongue outlawed after the Raid. I haven’t heard our language in so long, it takes me a few moments to remember what the word even means". King Saran of Orisha hates the maji people because they killed his family and thinks every maji is out to get him. Therefore, he is getting vengeance by restraining the maji from speaking their mother tongue. This statement shows that King Saran had an influence on the maji people. He tried to clear their language off completely, so it would be difficult for the current and next generation to use it against him. This could be compared to the real world when the Maori people of New Zealand were also forbidden from speaking their language by the Europeans. King Saran stereotypes every maji by thinking they are dangerous and they want to kill him because of one Maji's misdoing. I think that's wrong and you shouldn't be judged by the misdeed of others. Labels are for clothing, not people!

Body 2
In chapter 2 we see how the maji people are forced to pay unfair taxes because they are different from the kosidan. “It’s a diviner tax.” I grip the draped fabric of my pants, still haunted by the guard’s touch". King Saran truly despises the maji because of their magic. He forces them to pay a diviner tax, a tax because they're different. Guards of Orisha approach every diviner house and demand for money. The taxes are very high. So this makes it very difficult for the diviners to pay for their basic necessities, such as food. King Saran does anything to make the maji people vulnerable and defenceless. This could be compared to racism when people treat others who are different from them in an unfair way and make them feel bad about themselves. You shouldn't have to pay because you're different, I think that's unfair. Instead, we should embrace diversity and just be more empathic.

Body 3
In chapter 23 we see how water is misused as entertainment. “How is this possible?” I hiss under my breath, remembering the labourers no more than skin and bone. “So many dying for water and they waste it on this?". The arena is a colosseum which several boats fight to the death, with one victorious. They use the water in this situation for the boats to float. In this chapter labourers in the city of Ibeji are forced to work in tough conditions while water in their city is "scarce". When in reality the city has enough water for the labourers but choose to use it on entertainment for the privileged. This could be compared to the hunger games when the rich pay to watch the poor fight for their lives, with one victorious. I think as humans, we shouldn't waste water, and be more humane about these issues.

Conclusion
In Children Of Blood And Bone, we see that the challenging setting of Orisha has many flaws. From the unfair taxes towards the maji, or the wasting of water in Ibeji or even loss of language amongst all diviners. The setting of Orisha helped understand these ideas. “They don't hate you, my child. They hate what you were meant to become.”

Another World - Diversity

 🌍 Another World  🌍

In English, we have been learning about the concept of another world and the lessons we learn from movies and books we watched. I think we are learning about this because these stories will help me understand different perspectives and to respect other peoples differences. These are some things I learnt while watching and reading books and movies:

Willow Maid could be connected to problems in the world happening right now, such as disrespecting nature and humans.

Tarzan helped me to understand not to judge people who are different from you.

Avatar The Great Divide could be connected to the real world where people don’t respect each other's differences which creates arguments.

Butterflies helped me to understand that people have different perspectives and that we should respect their opinion even if we don’t agree with it.

Mulan helped me understand that we should stand up for what we believe in even if it looks impossible.

Zootopia helped me understand not to live by your stereotype and anyone can be anything.

Beauty And The Beast helped me understand that we shouldn't make assumptions based on other peoples differences.

Wonder helped me understand that we should always be kind to one another.

Life Of Pi helped me understand that we shouldn't give up, even if the situation is difficult.

The Lorax helped me understand why we should protect our environment and learn from our past mistakes.

Zootopia Essay

"Anyone can be anything" -Judy Hopps. In the film Zootopia directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, this inspirational quote is said by Judy Hopps. A bunny who really believes in this quote. An important idea in Zootopia is determination. This idea was shown during the play, police trails and the final speech.

The idea of determination was shown at the beginning of the film when Judy was performing in the play. The play talks about the history of Zootopia and the modernized Zootopia. Currently, in Zootopia children can be anything they want to be, but in Judy's case, her parents restrict her to certain careers. Judy's parents think stereotypically, bunnies can't be police officers they're not predators. Her parent's quote "It's going to be impossible for you to become a police officer". She replies back with  "I'll guess I'll be the first one".  Judy is determined to become a police officer. This makes the audience believe if you're truly passionate about something, you can do it, no matter what others say.

The second idea of determination was shown during the second half of the movie when Judy enters the police academy to become a police officer. The academy is primarily predators and she's the only diminutive mammal. When Judy joins the police academy she is very weak and unfit. This makes it very challenging for her to complete the obstacles. She would always finish last. We hear that the instructor yells many names at Judy such as "Fluff butt, bunny pumpkin and carrot face" which would often put her down. Knowing Judy she persevered through the situation by studying and training to improve her results. She was determined to prove to her parents that she can become a police officer and she succeeded. I think this helps the audience realize that anyone can be anything!

Another scene where the idea determination was shown was near the end of the film. Where Judy recites her inspirational speech about how every animal (no matter what their background) should be able to dream and make that dream come true.  In the end, she rewards Nick with a police badge. Judy is determined to make everyone in Zootopia embrace their differences and live peacefully without any judgement. She is also determined for the residents of Zootopia to get to know one another before making assumptions. Judy quotes "The more we get to understand one another the more exceptional we will be". The director wanted us to understand that if we truly get to understand people who are different from you the more exceptional we will be, just as Judy said.

To conclude an important idea in the film Zootopia is determination. This is shown when Judy performs in the play, police trails and her final speech at the end of the film. She was very determined at those scenes and persevered on. Determination is very important as it helps to increase your chance of being successful, as we can see in Judy's case. Because Judy was determined she was victorious in achieving her goal. Zootopia helped the audience understand that being determined will keep you motivated and help you achieve your goal.

Super Girl - 2019 - English

Image result for super girlSuper Girl

A message from Supergirl, Welcome to Earth is to not judge a person by their religion, colour or past experiences which determined the differences. This is because if you judge people by their differences, the person or people might turn out completely opposite. We saw this in the scene where Supergirl determines that Mon-El came to Earth to assassinate the president but when his real intention was to go back home. This is why I think It's important to get to understand a person before making up assumptions about them. In an ideal world, people would understand before judging, forget their differences and just be kind to one another.

Tarzan English - 2019

Image result for tarzan

Here are some questions and answers based on the movie we watched, Tarzan:

" Two Worlds, One Family "
I think this quote means, we are all one family and connected somehow even if we are animals or humans but we have our differences.

Here are some paragraphs I wrote :

A message from the movie Tarzan is we don’t respect or care for nature. This is because the bad characters such as Clayton are more concerned about themselves, their pleasure and wealth. We saw this in the scene when Clayton first comes to Africa and starts cutting through leaves and plants to make his way through the jungle, whereas Tarzan uses vines to travel. This is why I think it is important to understand nature and be more appreciating to it. In the real world, people are cutting down trees and damaging animal habitats for their benefits but in an ideal world this wouldn’t be happening, and animals wouldn’t be going extinct.

A message from the movie Tarzan is we show no respect for people who are different from us. This is because we don’t try to understand or connect with them we start judging them straight away. We see this in the scene when Karla brings the baby Tarzan to Kerchak, and he instantly says no because he judges Tarzan and doesn’t try to understand him. This is why I think it's important to understand a person before you make a judgment. In an ideal world, people wouldn’t have people like Clayton and Kerchak judging them by their colour, religion or appearance.
