Wonder Questions - Pg 81 - 117 pg. - English

Explain how the point of view in part 2 is different from that in part 1? Do they match up?
This segment of the book is different since is based on Via's perspective. ( August's Older Sister) This is different since it explains her experience with August and the family and how she deals with it. They don't match up because Part 1 was about August's experience.

In at least a paragraph, describe the challenges do you think Via might face being Auggie’s sister?
Via faces a lot of challenges because of Auggie, she doesn't get a lot of attention from her parents, even though her parents say they are really lucky to have her, she really doesn't think so. Quote: "You are the most understanding girl in the world, I don't know about that". Via usually compares her problems with August and knows that her problems can't be as bad as his. In addition, she doesn't get the same treatment as August.

Via says “August is the Sun.” Explain what she means and why she feels this
way?
Image result for wonderThis means everything revolves around August since in space everything orbits around the sun. Via might feel this way because she is either jealous or mad that August is the centre of attention for everything.

Do you agree with Via that she and her parents have made a mistake by always trying to make August feel like he is normal? Is this a problem? Explain.
Yes, because August's parents lose time with Via and miss her special moments such as Plays she might be in, her sports matches and if she needs help with homework, her achievements. They have lost a lot of time making August feel normal and have missed out on Via's achievements.

Why does Via go by Olivia at high school?
I think because of all the people in her life such as Mum, Dad, Brother or Best friend have called her this. She may want a fresh start in school.

How is Via finding a high school?
I assume she is finding it normal. There have been some good days and some bad days but that's an ordinary life at high school. Her best friend Miranda has not talked to her but she has met Justin a guy that has the same interests as her, so high school might not be so bad.

What are the odds of Via having a child that looks like August? Do you think these are good odds? Explain.
The odds are 50% because there is no specific answer saying so, or until she has a child which is a long way. Although we are not sure.

Explore the character, Miranda?
Miranda is a character who has a complicated life. She has problems with her friendships and she has a nice, caring and hidden personality. She went camping over the summer and came back with a completely different identity, she has made new friends and Via is finding this hard to understand. I think behind closed doors Miranda might be missing Via.

Why did she call August at the end of Part 2? Explain.
I assume that Miranda might still be missing Via so she did it over the phone, therefore she didn't have to confront her making it awkward.

Describe Via as a character? Do you empathise with her?
Via is a quiet, caring and curious character. She has mostly talked about how hard it is for her being the sister of Auggie and not getting mom or dads attention. In addition, she also talks about her emotions and how nobody understood them and the challenging part of high school. I may empathise with her but I am not completely sure.

What do you think will happen to August when he returns to school?
I think August will pretend as he does not care about the situation and move forward. He will have lunch with summer and possibly might make new friends around the school. But I doubt he will talk to Jack Will or have any contact with him. He'll mostly focus on studies and sooner or later he will find a good best friend.

Wonder Questions - Pg 41-80 - English

Star Wars is one of Auggie’s passions. Why do you think this is? Do you see any reasons for Auggie to identify with these characters, or to aspire to be like them?
Star Wars characters are acknowledged as monsters, and people would say to Auggie behind his back that " he is a monster and he looks like one to" so he is associated as one of them. He actually likes it, since the monsters in Star Wars save planets, people and are heroes which is why is aspire's to be like them.

What questions did Julian ask August and why did August want to slide under the desk? Explain why Julian asked those questions?
Julian asked a question " Who is your favourite character in Star Wars ? ". Auggie replied " Jango Fett" interfering Julian answered " is it Dark Sidious".  Dark Sidious is a character with a shrivelled up face after he was in a fire. Julian indirectly is trying to either hurt Auggie's feelings or trying to see why his face turned out to be like that.

Image result for wonderMr Browne’s September Precept was 'When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind'. Do you agree with this precept? Explain.
Yes, because being right in some cases can hurt people's feelings and being kind is the right thing to do, whatever the situation.

In the chapter One to Ten, August is feeling mad with his mother but he's not sure why. Explain why you think he was mad?
I think August was getting annoyed and frustrated by his mom always asking questions every day after school.

August invited his whole class to his birthday party but not many kids came.
Why do you think they didn't go?
I think why I lot of people didn't show up was because no one wanted to be near him, or either they were really scared or anxious to be around him. Auggie also admitted that people didn't want to touch him because they thought he was contagious.

August says he has an 'Aversion' to getting his picture taken. What is an aversion? Why does Auggie have an aversion to having his picture taken?
Aversion is a dislike or hatred against something. I assume he doesn't want his picture taken because Auggie doesn't like how he looks or either he doesn't want people talking about what he looks like in the photo and bullying him about it.

Why does no one want to touch August? How do you think this makes him feel?
I think why nobody wants to touch August this is because they might think he is contagious. People might think they can get this disease just by touching him.
Quote " I think it's like the cheese touch in the Diary of the wimpy kid were they think if they touch the cheese they might get cooties ".

Did your opinion of Jack Will change after August overheard him talking to Julian? Explain.
Yes, because I thought Jack was a nice and thoughtful person. Now I realised that Jack
will say anything in front if august just to make him his friend and help him with his studies, However, to sound cool jack will go behind august's back.

Do you think August will go back to school? Predict what will happen next?
Yes, because August has a strong character and he will go back to school no matter what the situation, he has learned how to deal with those mean people. I predict August will go to school and not talk to jack and probably later in the story will find a kind best friend.

Dictators - Social Studies - Yr 9

In this passage, I will be clarifying what the characteristics of a dictator. Usually, dictators are selfish, rude, greedy, hostile and mostly think of themselves rather than the country. Examples: Pol Pot, Adolf Hitler, Kim Jong Un, Bashar Al-Assad, Benito Mussolini, Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and there are many more. These are usually what dictators have in common but you will rarely see a nice dictator.
