Making A Mould

Aim:
How make a mould out of a hand or a body part.

Things I Need To Consider:

  1. Was the glue was soft enough to stick?
  2. How much play dough we needed?
  3. How much glue we needed?
  4. How much newspaper we needed?
Solutions:
  1. You check the glue if it is soft enough by putting it on your hand and see if it slides off.
  2. Take enough play dough that it can fit in your hand.
  3. Take small amounts of glue then if you fall short you can keep on getting it.
  4. You only need enough newspaper that you can't see the play dough .
Equipment:

  • Play dough
  • Newspaper
  • Glue(PVA)

Method:

  • Get your play dough, glue and newspaper.
  • Next roll the dough and make sure it is soft enough and big enough for your hand to go in.
  • After you have done that push your hand hard against the play dough to see your hand mould.
  • Next pull your hand out and see is there is a mould.
  • Then rip your newspaper into pieces and start glueing

Water

Why the water group is important?

The water group is important because you need water for everything.Without it you would be dead.Water plays an important part in life, animals and humans need it.First water is what we need to survive. With out water for 3 days we will be dead and dehydrated. We also need water for washing clothes, drinking, watering plants and many more reasons.

Water also cleans us without it we will be unclean and dirty. The earth is 70% water so you can't avoid it. You have to have at least 7 glasses of water a day or you will be dehydrated.
Water is very unique and it make a real difference. Because other planets in the solar system don't have water which makes us unique.
By not drinking water you can get disease's.

One of the diseases you can get by not drinking water is high blood cholesterol. Which can cause death.

Zombie Apocalype

Group:
Breanna,Ella,Nidhi and Deianira.

Aim:
-I want to investigate how to get water to survive the Zombie Apocalypse.

Things I need to consider:
-What happens if it doesn't rain?
-Where else can we get the water from?

HOW TO GET WATER FROM THE SKY (WATER CYCLE)

-One way to get water is from the sky. This is the water cycle. The first way is Evaporation. Evaporation is when water from the lakes, rivers and oceans, rise in tiny particles into the clouds. Next is Consideration the tiny particles then get ready to fall from the sky (Rain). Then comes precipitation when the water from clouds fall making it rain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ2uU0IsZcM -  HOW TO DRINK DIRTY WATER.

Our model.

How it works:

  • The big filter is to catch rain water.
  • The small bucket on the right is also a filter.
  • It works by catching the rain water and going side to side to clean it.
  • When it is full it will tip into the small bucket with the tap attached to it.
  • If in case it doesn't rain the well is to store the water.
  • Because the water in the well it not cleaned,we can put it in the filtering system and then it will be cleaned.

Questions Microbeads

http://storyofstuff.org/plastic-microbeads-ban-the-bead/

What are micro beads?
Micro beads are are small bits of plastic.. Micro beads also wind up in lakes and oceans. When Micro beads are wind up in lakes and oceans, fish will eat it because fish thinks that Micro beads are foods.

Why do they put micro beads in the face scrubs?
Because it helps get off dead skin.

Some products with micro beads are cheaper with the ones without micro beads.

Why we’ve been using micro beads?
Companies use it just for texture. Micro beads are cheaper than the natural exfoliates we used to use. It’s also an excuse to sell more stuff. Natural Exfoliates works so well that you can only use once a week.

What are some other names that they use instead of micro beads?
-micro beads can also be known as polyethylene,nylon,polypropylene,terephthalate,poly-methyl,methotrexate.

What other products  can micro beads be found in?

Avon,L'Oreal,Unilever,Simply Skin,Oral B,Johnson & Johnson,Bath and Body Works, Clean & Clear,Olay,Crest and many many more…….

What will happen If we keep using Micro beads?

If we keep using micro beads our environment will be filled with lots of little plastics floating in our oceans. Plus the fish we eat will have micro beads which means,we will have micro beads floating in our body.

I think i have achieved Lo 2 because i have told you what will happen if we keep on using micro beads.

Sierra Introduction.

Once there was a girl called Sierra. She is 10 years old. Sierra had bright blue eyes and long brown hair with a red ribbon attached to it. Sierra is a nice, calm and competitive girl she also likes baking. She was on camp with the school. It was a wide open place with trees and gardens spread as wide as the eye could see. It was a bright place and the sun was shining. Sierra decided to walk into the forests and admire the trees with her friend Annie. When they got half way through the forest a bell rang to go back to the camping site. Annie said “ We should go back,Miss Bell is going to be very mad. You know how she is”,.
“You go on I will be right behind you” said Sierra. So Annie walked back. Sierra was just about walk back when fairies started roaming around her. These fairies were very unusual looking. They had sparkling hair that shimmered in the sunlight. They also had mermaid looking tails and long braided hair. Their faces looked confused as if they never seen human before.

THE DIRTIEST PLACE IN THE SCHOOL

THE DIRTIEST PLACE IN THE SCHOOL...

Aim:
To find the the dirtiest place in Hornby High School.

HYPOTHESIS:
I think the dirtiest place in the school is underneath J block because bacteria likes dark and cold places so it will grow more.

LOCATIONS:
-Rubbish bin   -Toilet seat   -Gym floor   -Under J block   -Under tables   -Food room bench   -Chromebook keyboard   -Door handles   -Table top   -Glass window   -Our hands   -Bathroom tap
 -Drinking fountains.

Method:
-Take cotton bud and firmly wipe it over the surface.
-Wipe cotton bud across the agar jelly carefully.
-Seal the agar plate with cello tape and and write the location.
-Store upside down in a dark location.

CONCLUSIONS:

-The cleanest place was: Mr stocks door handle
Because:It had no bacteria or germs on it.

-The dirtiest place in school was: Is the J block rubbish bin.
Because: It has disgusting bacteria on it and a lot of fungus as well.

-I was surprised by: The different coloured bacteria's on it.

-The rubbish bin grew the most fungus.

-The gym floor grew the most bacteria.

    SCIENCE BADGE QUESTION 7

                 SCIENCE BADGE QUESTION 7

Question: How does milk become yoghurt.

Hypothesis: You add the milk and then you add the cream and then fruits.

    Materials: Milk and Yoghurt(Fresh Plain)

    Method:

1.Heat the milk and put it in a oven set at medium to medium high degrees.

2.Then you cool the milk down.

    3.Thin the yoghurt.

    1. At what temperature does bacteria reproduce   37 degrees.

    2. What temperature is the fridge   4-6 degrees.

    3. What is the healthy temperature for the human body

    37 degrees.

    OBSERVATION:

    Trim: Looks white and creamy.
Blue:Looks creamy and a little thick
    Cream: It is very creamy.

    Method...........

In a beaker add 150 mls of the trim milk and 2 tsps of acidophilus yoghurt. Stir to mix.Leave  out overnight. Repeat with cream and blue(full) milk.

What does it look like and smell like ?  Cream: It look's chunky and yoghurty. Blue(Fat Milk):Look's the same but just a little thick. Trim Milk(green top):Has turned into a light yellow and white colour.

    What happened to change it?
Cream:It turned thick .Fat Milk(blue top):it turned creamy. Trim Milk(green top):it turned yellow and thin.

Was your hypothesis right or wrong/Why?   It was wrong because I said you have to add the fruits in when we did not add it in.

If you were to do it again what would you change?
Add more acidophilus. To make it more thicker.

    What happened?
    Bacteria reproduced.
Bacteria fed off the sugar in the milk.
Trim milk made a thinner yoghurt than fat milk(blue top)and cream because it had less sugar.

    Stephen Hawking

                                             STEPHEN HAWKING

Stephen Hawking was born on 8 January 1942 in Oxford England. He is has a disease called LOU GEHRIG'S that has paralysed him for the rest of his life. He has 3 children they are Robert Hawking,Lucy Hawing,Timothy Hawking and he has a wife called Elaine Mason. Elaine Mason is Stephen Hawking's second wife. His first wife name was called Jane Hawking

                               HIS LIFE

Stephen Hawking Began his schooling at Bryon House School. He later blamed its progressive methods for his failure to learn to read while at the school. In St Albans at the age of 8 Stephen Hawking attended St Albans High School For Girls for a few months. Then Stephen Hawking attended Radlett School for 1 year and from September 1952 his family placed a high value on his education.Hawking's farther wanted him to go to Westminster School.

But the 13 year old Stephen Hawking was sick on the Scholarship Examination. His family could not afford the school fees without the financial aid of a scholarship, so Hawking remained at St Albans School.A positive consequence was that Hawking remained with a close group of friends with whom he enjoyed board games, the manufacture of fireworks, model aeroplanes and boats. From 1958, and with the help of the mathematics teacher Dikran Tahta, they built a computer from clock parts, an old telephone switchboard and other recycled stuff. At school he was known as Einstein. Stephen Hawking decided to study mathematics in university.

Hawking's father advised him to study medicine, concerned that there were few jobs for mathematics graduates. He wanted Hawking to attend University College, Oxford.Stephen Hawking could not read mathematics instead he decided to study physics and chemistry. Stephen Hawking was given an scholarship award for some examination in 1959 at the age of 17.

For the first 18 months he was bored and lonely,he found academic work very easy at his age. His physics tutor(Robert Berman)said it was only necessary for him to know that something could be done, and he could do it without looking to see how other people did it."Stephen hawking was really interested in classical music and science fiction.

                                                    WALKING IN A STRAIGHT LINE

    AIM:
I want to find out if we need our senses to walk in a straight line.

    HYPOTHESIS:
I think that you can't walk in a straight line with out your senses.

    EQUIPMENT:
    1. Blind fold your self from seeing
2.Put cotton wool in your nose and ears to stop you from smelling or hearing anything.
3.Last put a bucket on your head so it will stop you from feeling the wind.

    METHOD:
Walk in a straight line for 200m without stopping.

                                                                  HERE IS A EXAMPLE:

    RESULTS:

In science with Mr stock my group I was sent outside to walk in a straight line without our 5 senses (sight, smell, touch, hearing and touch).
I didn't want to do it so my friend Gabriel done it.  He had to put cotton wool up his nose and ears.Gabriel also had to blindfold himself and put a bucket on top of his head.He started very well then he went sideways.
It was funny to watch.Soon Gabriel started to go straight and he made it till the end.Yeah.

    DISCUSSION:

If you were lost in a bush you will go around in circles because one leg is longer and stronger.
