Another World - Diversity

 🌍 Another World  🌍

In English, we have been learning about the concept of another world and the lessons we learn from movies and books we watched. I think we are learning about this because these stories will help me understand different perspectives and to respect other peoples differences. These are some things I learnt while watching and reading books and movies:

Willow Maid could be connected to problems in the world happening right now, such as disrespecting nature and humans.

Tarzan helped me to understand not to judge people who are different from you.

Avatar The Great Divide could be connected to the real world where people don’t respect each other's differences which creates arguments.

Butterflies helped me to understand that people have different perspectives and that we should respect their opinion even if we don’t agree with it.

Mulan helped me understand that we should stand up for what we believe in even if it looks impossible.

Zootopia helped me understand not to live by your stereotype and anyone can be anything.

Beauty And The Beast helped me understand that we shouldn't make assumptions based on other peoples differences.

Wonder helped me understand that we should always be kind to one another.

Life Of Pi helped me understand that we shouldn't give up, even if the situation is difficult.

The Lorax helped me understand why we should protect our environment and learn from our past mistakes.

❤️ Medical Science - Heart ❤️

❤️ The Heart ❤️

Aim:  I want to create a poster to make people aware of heart attacks.

Results:

Discussion:

Image result for human heart

The heart is a four-chambered muscular organ, which is approximately the size of your fist. The heart is split into the left side and the right side this structure protects the oxygenated blood mixing with the deoxygenated blood. The right side of your heart is weaker than your left side. This is because the left side of your heart needs to pump oxygenated blood to your entire body whereas the right side needs to only pump to the lungs to be oxygenated. Oxygenated blood is a brighter red than deoxygenated blood.

What Are Arteries & Veins:
Arteries and veins are blood vessels that carry blood to the body. Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart ( except the pulmonary artery ) and veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart (except the pulmonary vein ). Arteries have thick, elastic and muscular walls whereas veins have thin walls. Arteries appear red when viewed through the skin and veins appear blue. Blood flows through the arteries under high pressure and arteries have no valves on the other hand veins carry blood which is under low pressure and they have valves. Arteries and veins are connected by smaller vessels called capillaries.

How The Heart Works:
Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart after circulating through the body. It then enters into the right side which contains the right atrium and the right ventricle. The right atrium pumps blood into the right ventricle through the tricuspid valves. Then the blood is collected and pumped into the lungs via the pulmonary arteries. The Lungs restore the blood with oxygen ( oxygenated blood ). Oxygenated blood enters the left side of the heart which contains the left atrium and left ventricle. The blood is pumped into the left atrium and then into the left ventricle via the mitral valve. Next, the oxygenated blood is pumped out of the left ventricle into the aorta via the aortic valve and to the rest of the body.

Valves & Contraction:
There are four valves in our heart which keep the blood moving the correct way. The tricuspid valve, mitral valve, pulmonary valve and the aortic valve. These valves only open one way to let the blood flow forward, then it is closed so the blood doesn't go backward.  Each valve opens and closes once per heartbeat. Your heart contracts and relaxes. Contraction is called systole and relaxing is called diastole. During systole, your ventricles contract and which forces blood into your lungs and body. However, during diastole, your ventricles relax and are filled with blood coming from the upper chambers the left and right atria. Then the cycle starts again.

Heart Attack?

Evaluation:
This is my poster about heart attacks. It's pretty simple and straight forward. However, if I was to do this again I would make the poster with larger paper such as A3 to add more information and pictures. I would also make the poster a bit more eye-catching using bolder colours. If someone else was to create a similar poster like this then I would recommend using these ideas. I enjoyed learning about the heart and heart attacks. This makes me want to research more, such as what's a hole in the heart? What is angina? What does plaque look like (realistically)? I would also want to find out more about the evolution of the human heart
Facts:
- Your heart beats about 100,000 times a day.
- Injections go into a vein because they have a thinner wall than arteries which is easier to get the needle into. Veins also carry blood which is under low pressure, this makes the blood easier to handle.
- Your heart is approximately the size of your fist.
- The beating sound of your heart is caused by the valves opening and closing.
- Laughing is good for your heart.
- Women's heart beats slightly faster than a mans.
- The heart pumps blood to every part of your body, except the cornea ( outer barrier of your eye ).

Child Trafficking Presentation - Social Studies

Child Trafficking
For social studies, we had to create a presentation about child soldiers, child trafficking or child slavery. I chose child trafficking and here is my presentation.

Zootopia Essay

"Anyone can be anything" -Judy Hopps. In the film Zootopia directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, this inspirational quote is said by Judy Hopps. A bunny who really believes in this quote. An important idea in Zootopia is determination. This idea was shown during the play, police trails and the final speech.

The idea of determination was shown at the beginning of the film when Judy was performing in the play. The play talks about the history of Zootopia and the modernized Zootopia. Currently, in Zootopia children can be anything they want to be, but in Judy's case, her parents restrict her to certain careers. Judy's parents think stereotypically, bunnies can't be police officers they're not predators. Her parent's quote "It's going to be impossible for you to become a police officer". She replies back with  "I'll guess I'll be the first one".  Judy is determined to become a police officer. This makes the audience believe if you're truly passionate about something, you can do it, no matter what others say.

The second idea of determination was shown during the second half of the movie when Judy enters the police academy to become a police officer. The academy is primarily predators and she's the only diminutive mammal. When Judy joins the police academy she is very weak and unfit. This makes it very challenging for her to complete the obstacles. She would always finish last. We hear that the instructor yells many names at Judy such as "Fluff butt, bunny pumpkin and carrot face" which would often put her down. Knowing Judy she persevered through the situation by studying and training to improve her results. She was determined to prove to her parents that she can become a police officer and she succeeded. I think this helps the audience realize that anyone can be anything!

Another scene where the idea determination was shown was near the end of the film. Where Judy recites her inspirational speech about how every animal (no matter what their background) should be able to dream and make that dream come true.  In the end, she rewards Nick with a police badge. Judy is determined to make everyone in Zootopia embrace their differences and live peacefully without any judgement. She is also determined for the residents of Zootopia to get to know one another before making assumptions. Judy quotes "The more we get to understand one another the more exceptional we will be". The director wanted us to understand that if we truly get to understand people who are different from you the more exceptional we will be, just as Judy said.

To conclude an important idea in the film Zootopia is determination. This is shown when Judy performs in the play, police trails and her final speech at the end of the film. She was very determined at those scenes and persevered on. Determination is very important as it helps to increase your chance of being successful, as we can see in Judy's case. Because Judy was determined she was victorious in achieving her goal. Zootopia helped the audience understand that being determined will keep you motivated and help you achieve your goal.
