Preparing A Slide - Science - 2018
Preparing A Slide ( Microscope )

Equipment:
Stain ( Iodine ), Slide, Tweezers, Coverslip, Specimen.
Making A Slide:
1. Place your specimen in the middle of a clean slide. Ensure that the specimen is laying flat and not folded.
2. Add 2 - 3 drops of the stain solution. Plant cells are commonly stained with iodine, whereas animals cells are commonly stained with methylene blue. Both of these solutions the nucleus of each cell ( and your fingers and clothes, so be careful ).
3. Holding the coverslip by its edges in your left hand, maneuver it so that the bottom edge of the coverslip makes contact with both the slide and the edge of the stain solution. With your right hand, support the top edge of the coverslip with a pair of scissors.
4. Gently lower the coverslip with the tweezers, ensuring that no air bubbles are trapped under the coverslip.
5. Place your slide on the microscope stage and examine it under low-power magnification.

When my group zoomed into the onion membrane we saw that the cell was in a shape similar to a honeycomb. This happened because plant cells have cell walls which give it that particular shape, animal cells don't that's why they are shaped irregularly.
This time we tested on human saliva. My group and I zoomed in but all we saw were specs of black dots, later we realised that it was an animal cell. It was shaped weirdly which made it hard to discover it was an animal cell. An animal cell is shaped like that because it has no cell wall.

A conclusion on what the" Whare Tapa Wha is how it illustrates Hauroa?
Whare Tapa Wha is about your overall well being including your Physical Well Being ( Taha Tinana ), Spiritual Well Being ( Taha Wairua ), Social Well Being ( Taha Whanau ) & Mental and Emotional Well Being ( Taha Hinengaro ). This is useful to understand because when your trying to become more mentally and physically fit Hauora and the Whare Tapa Wha come in very beneficial.
How did you participate with others and how did you contribute to your team?
I participated well because I contributed by writing the meanings and examples for each wall and assigning roles for each person in my group to complete. Next time I will not joke around with friends and try to keep and on track, including my friends and I.

How did you cope with team challenges and how did you relate to others?
It was challenging when certain people in my group were away which made doing the tasks a bit difficult. Other people would not listen and get off track. I coped with the challenges by reminding them of the deadlines and making them sit in silence =). I worked okay with others because everyone would do their jobs but weren't paying attention. Next time I will maybe choose other people to work among.
