The Merchant of Venice/Act 1 Scene 3

Act 1 Scene 3:

Shylock is a moneylender does he seem eager to do business with Bassanio? How do you know?
No, because he is a Christian and Shylock is a Jewish man they don't have a good relationship together and Shylock knows that Bassanio is poor so he doesn't lend him.

What does Shylock think it's safe, his business or Antonio's? Why?
He thinks his business is safe is because Antonio's ships are at sea and Antonio has no money on him.

Why doesn't Shylock want to dine with Antonio and Bassanio?
Shylock doesn't want to dine with Antonio and Bassanio because in his religion he can't eat pork.

What strict principal is Antonio breaking to help Bassanio?
He is asking Shylock for money when he doesn't have any and if he doesn't pay back Shylock in time, Shylock will cut a pound of flesh from Antonio's body.

Shylock tells a bible story to prove that the taking of profit is blessed, as long as thieving is not involved. Does he convince Antonio? Give evidence.
No, because antonio didn't sound much interested in the text.

Shylock accuses Antonio of a whole catalog of nastiness. How does Antonio answer the charges?
Antonio says that we are not friends and I'm doing this for my friend, Bassanio.
How does Bassanio react to the proposed bond?
He is not on board with Antonio's decision because Antonio is risking his life for his best friend.
