Making Copper Sulfate Salt.

Aim: To produce copper sulfate salt by reacting copper oxide with an acid

Equipment: Copper oxide powder, dilute sulfuric acid, measuring cylinder, 2x 100mL beakers, bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, funnel, filter paper, thermometer, spatula, evaporating basin, stirring rod.

Method:
  1. Add 20mL of sulfuric acid to a 100mL beaker. Heat to 70degrees. Turn off your bunsen.
  2. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide. Stir for 30secs
  3. Repeat step 2 until no more dissolved.
  4. Fold filter paper and place in the funnel. Place the funnel in the second beaker.
  5. Make sure your first beaker is cool enough to hold and then pour it into the funnel. Gently swirl and allow to filter through.
  6. Rinse the beaker and fill with 50mL of water and place on a tripod.
  7. Place evaporating basin on top of a beaker and pour some solution in.
  8. Gently heat until the solution has reduced by half.
  9. Take off heat and allow to cool.
Results & Discussion :
When we put the powder in the solvent the solute turned into a black solution. Then we filtered the solution into another clean beaker. When we were filtering the solution the dark black liquid turned into a light blue solution. Then we put the liquid in an evaporating basin. We left the blue solution overnight. The next day crystals formed.

Conclusion:
The experiment involved turning solids into liquids and creating a solution. Our crystals were all different sizes. We had a lot of equipment to use. The final product turned out well

Science Experiment :

Science Experiment:

Aim: To investigate the relationship between the height of a ball dropped from a height.

Hypothesis: I think the higher you drop the ball the half its height it's going to bounce.

Equipment needed: Metre ruler, Tennis ball ( or any other ball),

Method:
1. Get a tennis ball
2. Put any measuring tool ( Ruler ) against a something straight to support it.
3. Drop the ball from a height of your choice 3 or 4 times to see the difference ( drop it from different heights)
4. Watch the first bounce a see what height it stopped at.
5. Write the recorded data and place it on a graph.

Key Variables:

Dependant:  The height of the first bounce

Independent: Where you drop the ball from ( The place where you drop it from)

Control: The same equipment.

Results :
Height
1. 60cm - first bounce 30cm
2. 60cm - first bounce 31.5cm
3. 70cm - first bounce 36cm
4. 1 metre - frist bounce 46.5 cm
5. 1 metre - first bounce 49 cm
6. 150cm - first bounce 67cm
7. 150cm - first bounce 66cm
8. 257.7 - first bounce 96cm
9.257.7 - first bounce 107cm

Discussion:
I found out that there were different results to each trail. If you dropped the ball twice from the same height it would have different results.

Conclusion:
My hypothesis was that if a dropped a ball from a certain height it's first bounce would be half it's height. I was right because my hypothesis is similar to what happened.
