Distillation

Aim: To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation.

Equipment: A solution of cola, test tube, heatproof mat, a delivery tube and bung, Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, retort stand, boss head clamp & boiling tube.

Method:
1. Set up the equipment
as shown in the diagram.
2. Add approximately 50ml of cola to your test tube.
3. Light your bunsen burner. Open air hole gently pushes the Bunsen burner under the tripod.
4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated. Turn off your bunsen burner.

Results & Discussion:
First, we set everything up as it said on the scipad and then we lit the bunsen burner. Then we poured the coke, we used diet coke. After that, we moved the bunsen burner in and out. Next, we saw the little bubbles rising from the tube into the test tube. After that, we saw multiple bubbles rising. By accident, a little coke went into the test tube and so our clear bubble water went to a light cream color.

Conclusion:
To conclusion, this experiment was to extract the water from the coke and see what it comes to. Our experiment worked out really well except for the part when a tiny amount of coke went into the test tube changing the color.
