The Charge Of The Light Brigade - English Language Techniques

The Charge Of The Light Brigade

The Charge of the Light Brigade - Historic UK

In English, we are currently learning about language techniques in texts. The poem I chose to analyse was the charge of the light brigade. It can be found here.

In the poem, repetition was used at the start of the text. " Half a league, half a league, half a league onward". However, repetition was used quite a lot throughout the text.  It was effective as it gave the effect of making the phrase more memorable for the reader.

Hyperbole is the use of obvious exaggeration. This technique was used in the second paragraph  " Jaws of death ". This gave the effect of emotion towards the reader and was used effectively.

" Volleyed and thundered", this is the use of emotive language and can be seen near the second to last paragraph.  It was effective because it made the reader apprehend the text and created emotion.

The whole text, in general, was written in past tense because there was a number of ed words and is a third-person narration.
