Activity 2 ( Mighty Mangroves )

My mum is someone who I think is strong and tough because she can stand any obstacle and still be able to smile. She is someone who gives off a positive vibe and loves helping others in need. She is an amazing role model and is a real comedian. These are some reasons why I think my mother is so strong and tough.

2. Sister ( I chose my sister because she is really funny, active and she is always making me smile )

3. My Dad ( I chose my dad because he would encourage me to do my best )

Activity 3 ( Something Smells Fishy )

👁️ Summer Learning Journey - Day 5 - Week 1 👁️

Blink Or You'll Miss It

Activity 1 ( Towering Timbers )
In this activity, we are supposed to argue if logging should be allowed in New Zealand. If you don't know what logging is, click here.

I think logging should be allowed in New Zealand because it will help New Zealand in a number of ways, such as paper, houses & energy.
Well, you might be thinking why to cut down beautiful trees and ruin our native forests and parks. I think for every tree we cut down we should plant more trees in a different area ( not native parks ). So in the following years, we have more trees to cut down without harming any animals or forests. This cycle will go on without any harm for years to come. This also opens up job opportunities for people. I think this approach to cutting down trees is a smart and healthy way of preserving our trees. Unlike the movie Lorax.

Activity 2 ( Living On The Edge )
In this activity, we have to write a letter to a family member describing a class trip to tundra.

Dear Family,

Image result for tundra
I was extremely fortunate to go on a class trip to the tundra. When we arrived we got a fresh cold wind slapping us in the face as we walked out of the bus. I checked the temperature, and it stated that the temperature was about -24 to -26 degrees. Our class group walk towards a small pool of water and I touch the water, it feels as my hand could freeze instantly. One of our group members spots a skulk of arctic foxes running together. Everyone gets there phone out and takes pictures, this experience coming tundra has been very memorable.

Activity 3 ( Going, going ...gone )
We have to describe what New Zealand was like before the whole country sinks!

New Zealand such a lively and beautiful country, with gorgeous chirping birds, like the Tui, Pukeko, Kiwi and various others. Covered with tall, beautiful trees and their bright leaves. From the bottom of Stewart Island to the top of the North Island, embraced with people who admire and call this country home. From the crowded and busy streets of Auckland to the windy and steep hills of Wellington comes the North Island, stories say the giant fish of Maui. The canoe of which Maui and his brothers caught the fish, is the South Island. The South Island consists of large hills and mountains such as the Aoraki Mount Cook and many cities and towns who love living here. Surround by water, there are beaches everywhere. New Zealand, a country to be appreciated.

🦁 Summer Learning Journey - Day 3 - Awesome Animals 🐼

Image result for wolf red eyes
Activity 1 ( Fantastic Beasts )

In this activity we are supposed to create our own beast, here's mine:

My beast consists of four crinigerous legs and very long keen toenails. He has really rough black fur on his body and has a strong hearing ability. He has eyes as red as blood and when stared into you will be hypnotized. Along with his eyes, he has razor-sharp teeth. This beast has an appetite for blood from any living creature and will hunt you down alive. He can run nearly as fast as a cheetah ( WATCH OUT ). There is one of his kind making this beast very rare and unique. Good Luck finding him as he only lives in dark caves in the depths of the forests. There is no name for this unknown creature. 🐺 BEAST 🐺

Activity 2 ( The Secretive Skink )

Pro's & Con's - Doc Ranger:
Link
Image result for people taking care of animalsPros:
Doc Rangers get to hang out with cool animals.
They're preventing animals from getting extinct.
Rangers also hang out with people who have similar interest ( animals ).

Cons:
Because your living on an island you can't see your family members every day.

You might get attacked or bitten by the animals.
Animals might die, and many people get attached to those animals.

I think I would not become a D.O.C Ranger because of the fear of getting bitten by animals is scary for me. Also, your living on an island without seeing your family and for me, I wouldn't like a job like that.

Activity 3 ( World Wildlife Fund ) - Bonus

This is the video I watched relating to the WWF. Questions to answer:

Image result for saimaa ringed seal
The name of the animals the WWF is trying to save?

In this video, the WWF is trying to save Saimaa Ringed Seal.

What the WWF is doing to save the animals?
For this endangered seal to give birth the seal has to dig a snow bank in order to reproduce. If there are no snow banks available the seal pups are born on exposed ice which can harm them because they don't have any protection. So this organisation is building snow banks for the pups because up to half of these special creatures can die.

What success have they had?
They have had quite a success as last year 73 pups were born out of 83. This year they built 10 more snow banks than last year.

🌲 Summer Learning Journey - Day 2 - Forest Life 🌲

Summer Learning Journey

Image result for tane mahuta tree🌲 Activity 1 ( Giants Among Us ) 🌲

I would love to be one of the thousands of people that visit the Tane Mahuta kauri tree. Because I want to see how to tall the tree actually is, and I live in the South Island making it difficult to find a kauri tree. So I would definitely love to visit this magnificent tree.

Activity 2 ( Fabulous Ferns )

One task for this activity was to name 3 NZ sporting teams that have the word " Fern " on their title:

1. White Ferns ( New Zealand Women's National Cricket Team ) 🏏
2. Silver Ferns ( New Zealand National Netball Team ) 🏐
3. Black Ferns ( New Zealand Women's National Rugby Union Team ) 🏉

I think the best uniform is the white ferns cricket team. Because I like that the uniform is pink, white and black it looks really unique and pink is a bold colour which looks really nice on the uniform.

Antarctica - Discovery & Animals - 2018

Antarctica

How well do you think this work has gone?
I think my group was successful in completing this assessment and presenting it. I think we researched well and done better than we expected. Overall we got a good result.

What was the best section of your work?
I think the best section of our work was the discovery part of the video, which explained who and when Antarctica was discovered by.

Image result for antarcticaWhere did you go wrong in completing the assessment?
I think we should have put more sources and websites on where we got the information from in our presentation to get a higher mark.

How might you improve your outcome in the future?
I would improve by perhaps focusing on one idea than tossing around with two or three ideas and making the presentation confusing. Also next time I would do presumably make a model to show a better picture.

What did I find interesting about the topic I completed my presentation on?
Something interesting I found out was when and who discovered Antarctica because they were many people. I also found out there are many countries who have much ownership over Antarctica.

What did I struggle with during the assessment?
I struggled with finding the key and interesting information about the topic. I also struggled with my group as they would slightly get off task.
